We adapt the program to the group's age, from preschool and younger primary pupils to secondary students, adjusting the content and intensity of activities by agreement.

How long is the program?

The sample program runs 4 days and 3 nights, but we adjust the length and content to the school's needs.

What does the price include?

We base the price on the number of students, length of stay and chosen activities. Send an enquiry for an exact offer.

The whole space is designed for groups of children, the village is quiet and almost traffic-free, and activities take place in a supervised environment led by the Center's staff.

everything in one place

Pecka is a small mountain village in the Mrkonjić Grad municipality of Republika Srpska, in western Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the green heart of the Krajina region. Over recent years it has become known as a rare example of preserved nature and a safe, creative space for learning. Visitor Center Pecka sits at the heart of the village, surrounded by untouched forests, springs and open meadows, designed to give children a safe and stimulating base in nature.

The Center is set up inside a former village school built in 1931 and has been running since 2015 under the Greenways association, with outdoor school programs for preschool and primary pupils among its core activities. Schools that come here are not getting an improvised excursion, but a program run and refined on site for years.

Several friendly pets live at the Center, and a visit to a nearby farm can be arranged on request. The village is quiet, with almost no traffic, and everything a group needs — accommodation, meals, workspace and activities — is in one place.

Inside the Center's grounds

The Center has room for play, learning and time together, and all of it sits inside the same grounds, so a class never travels between two activities.

Pecka also sits right below the cliffs of one of the largest natural climbing areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with more than a hundred established routes, and the surroundings are laced with marked trails. Together, this makes Pecka an ideal base for school excursions, field teaching and outdoor school stays.

The program is built around the Center's core activities, chosen and combined to suit the group's age and the length of stay. Each one carries a colour, and that colour follows it through the timetable, the school subjects and the enquiry at the foot of the page.

A trip to the Sana river
Students spend a day beside one of the cleanest rivers in the country. Walking and exploring, they learn about the springs, the ecosystem and why protecting rivers matters, all through play and observation. Not far from the Center, in neighbouring Donja Pecka, the Sana rises from three powerful karst springs protected as the „Vrela Sane“ natural monument; the water is so clear that trout and freshwater crayfish live in it. The Romans named the river from the Latin sanus, meaning health.
The walk covers around 7 km.

Plants and mushrooms
An engaging talk introduces students to wild plants and mushrooms. They learn to recognise the basic species, understand how to behave safely in the forest, and discover how diverse and valuable the nature around Pecka is.
If they wish, students make their own small herbarium — a keepsake and a teaching aid at once.

Birdwatching
An expert ornithologist introduces the most interesting bird species of the region. Forests, meadows and a clean river create habitat for rich birdlife, so students learn how birds differ in appearance, call and behaviour, and why they matter for the ecosystem.

Children express their impressions of nature through colour and drawing. The workshop builds imagination, focus and visual expression.

Students prepare a simple dish or dessert together, picking up basic cooking skills and learning to work as a team.

Orienteering and map reading
On the marked trails around Pecka, students learn the basics of finding their way: how to use a map and compass, read trail markings and move safely and independently through the forest. It turns easily into a team treasure hunt.

Ecology workshop
Through simple, playful examples, children learn about recycling, saving water and energy, and behaving responsibly in nature. The Center, running partly on solar power, is a living example of the sustainability being discussed.

The playgrounds, volleyball court and amphitheatre become a space for relays and small tournaments, as well as team challenges and trust games that bring a class together.

The Roman road and old Pecka
For older groups, Pecka carries a layer of history. In Roman times a road ran through here from Salona to Servitium, alongside a settlement called Sarnade, and the surroundings still hold the remains of a medieval fortress, old dry-stone walls and traditional houses of stone and wood. The Ubovića brdo viewpoint is an easy walk of about 2 km.
