VarcarThe beer that carries the town's name

Jugoslav Župić, Mrkonjić Grad

There is something honest about a beer that does not hide what it is. Varcar is Jugoslav Župić's craft beer from Mrkonjić Grad — homemade, cloudy, unfiltered and unpasteurised, the way beer turns out when it is made with time rather than on a line.

The name is already a story. Varcar is the old name of Mrkonjić Grad — the town was Varcar Vakuf until it was renamed in 1924. Calling a beer that ties it to the identity of the place, to what was here before us. Every bottle is a small reminder.

Varcar is brewed in a small craft brewery in Mrkonjić Grad, in batches set by the craft and not by the arithmetic. The haze and the sediment are not a fault but a signature — proof the beer has not been combed out by filters and pasteurisation so it can sit longer on a shelf. This is beer for people who like knowing where their glass came from.

What they make
